Sunday
4th May 2008
Broadway United completed their second successive league and cup double
with victory over Siddington at Whaddon Road. Broadway dominated
from the start and should have been ahead before the break. Harry
Naylor, Jacob Knight, Charlie Stock and man of the match Sean Cooke were
creating chances from midfield for front men Connor Hensey and Alex Hammerton.
Hensey missed two chances, one rebounding off the post and another well
saved from the Siddington keeper. Broadway's constant pressure
with good passing football looked like telling but the Siddington keeper
was in good form also keeping out Cooke, Stock and Hammerton. The
Broadway defence of Ben Hoskins, Luis Sone, Luke McDonagh and Harry Lowe
were rarely troubled but dealt with everything they had to efficiently.
The impressive Naylor was replaced by Drew Clarke following an injury.
John Carter replaced Lowe at right back at the start of the second half.
The half began with more Broadway pressure and it was Cooke who finally
broke the deadlock with a shot across the goal which was heading for the
far corner but with a defender helping it over the line. It wasn't
long before Broadway scored their second with Stock put through and
firing home from the goalkeepers initial save. The game evened out a bit
from then and James Bishop pulled off a couple of good saves but then
Cooke scored his second goal with a neat chip into the far corner.
The game seemed beyond reach but Siddington pulled a goal back with ten
minutes remaining following a deflected shot sending Bishop the wrong
way. But Broadway saw out the final minutes to record a deserved
win.

Broadway eased past Lakeside in this Under 13's cup semi-final tie and
will face Siddington in the final at Waddon Road on Sunday 4th May k.o.
5.25pm. Broadway started well and Jacob Knight had the first
chance but fired just wide. Then Broadway won a free-kick on the
right of the area and Charlie Stock placed his shot into the top corner
to send Broadway on their way. Man of the match Alex Hammerton
then scored a header for his first and then scrambled a second when the
Lakeside keeper seemed to be first to the ball. Broadway had
further chances to increase the lead but it was Lakeside who scored next
on the stroke off half-time to reduce the deficit. Broadway began
the second half as they did the first and Hammerton scored his third and
fourth goals of the match with two well taken goals, both of his own
making. A sixth goal for Broadway by Luis Sone from a Sean Cooke
corner rounded off a great display from the cup holders.
Broadway's defence of Sone, Ben Hoskins, Harry Lowe, Luke McDonagh, sub
John Carter and keeper James Bishop kept the Lakeside attack at bay for
most of the match. The midfield of Cooke, Stock, Connor Hensey and
Knight created openings for Hammerton and Drew Clarke up front. Broadway
could probably have score more but were denied by some great saves from
the Lakeside keeper.

Broadway went further ahead at the top of the table thanks to another
fine win, this time against second placed Cleve Colts. Man of the
match Alex Hammerton opened the scoring midway through the first half,
slotting the ball into the corner when put through by Charlie Stock.
The Broadway midfield of Jacob Knight, Harry Parker, Sean Cooke, Connor
Hensey (and sub Drew Clarke) were battling hard and were well supported
by front men Stock & Hammerton. Stock then made it 2 - 0 with an
effort just outside the area which found the bottom corner. Cleve
halved the deficit at the start of the second half before a neat move
ended with Sean Cooke firing home at the far post. But Cleve
scored again to set up an exciting finish. But the Broadway
defence of Luis Sone, John Carter, Ben Hoskins, Luke McDonagh (and sub
Harry Lowe) stayed strong as they had all afternoon and it was Hammerton
who completed his hat-trick with two fine goals to give Broadway a 5 - 2
victory.

Broadway won their third successive league championship with victory
over Churchdown Panthers. Harry Parker opened the scoring for
Broadway after 20 minutes, but had a few scares early on with Panthers
coming close to opening the scoring but failing to beat goalkeeper James
Bishop. It wasn't long before Churchdown drew level and chances
were wasted at both ends with Broadways defence of Luis Sone, John
Carter, Harry Lowe, Connor Hensey & Luke McDonagh working hard.
Then a wonder bicycle kick from Sean Cooke found the bottom corner just
before half-time and Broadway never looked back. The midfield of
Cooke, Parker, Harry Parker & Charlie Stock were creating openings for
strikers Drew Clarke and Alex Hammerton. The second half was
one-way traffic with Hammerton, two own goals and a Stock hat-trick
completing the scoring. Broadway travel to The Royal Agricultural

Broadway made hard work of this victory against a Saracens team who
played a lot better than their league position shows. Broadway had
the better chances throughout with James Bishop rarely troubled.
Charlie Stock opened the scoring midway through the first half with a
long range effort into the top corner. Broadway then missed more
chances before Sean Cooke rifled in to the roof of the net with a close
range shot before half time. Broadway's defence of Luis Sone, Ben
Hoskins, Luke McDonagh & John Carter kept Saracens at bay throughout.
Broadways free flowing passing football which got them clear at the top
of the league was missing but the move of the match saw Connor Hensey
smash in from the six yard line following a cross from Cooke. Broadway travel to Parton

Broadway had to twice come from two goals down to take all three points
home and maintain their five point lead at the top of the table. A
lacklustre first half saw Broadway two goals behind within the first
fifteen minutes. Broadway had to field a changed team due to
absentees and goalkeeper James Bishop became a makeshift striker
following a shoulder injury which saw central defender Luis Sone go
between the sticks. Sone was the busier of the two keepers with
Broadway finding it difficult to get any rhythm going. Broadway
pulled a goal back with Alex Hammerton's shot going in off the cross
bar. It wasn't long before Lakeside regained their two goal
advantage just before the break. Broadway nearly went three goals
behind at the start of the second half with the ball striking a post and
Harry Parker clearing well under pressure. It was the kick Broadway
needed. They began passing the ball around, use some width and
begin believing in themselves. A superb turn and shot from Jacob
Knight halved the deficit and it wasn't long before Hammerton equalised
with another well taken goal, quickly followed by his hat-trick with an
exquisite lob. Lakeside didn't know what had hit them and Bishop
got Broadway's fifth following another good build up. Broadway had
chances to increase their lead but settled for the win which at half
time looked a long way off. Broadway travel to Prestbury Park, Cheltenham

Broadway produced some good football in parts but failed to find any
rhythm against Churchdown Panthers. Broadway had an early scare
when a Churchdown attack ended with a corner following a good build-up
and goalkeeper James Bishop had to palm away. Broadway missed a
hatful of chances before Jacob Knight gave them the lead midway through
the first half with a low shot into the corner from just inside the
area. Broadway's defence of Luis Sone, Ben Hoskins, Luke McDonagh
& Harry Parker kept The Panthers at bay with the away side not producing
a single shot in the whole match. Broadway's midfield of Knight,
Harry Lowe, Sean Cooke, Drew Clarke and Charlie Stock were creating
openings throughout. Man of the match Alex Hammerton produced another
fine display up front and grabbed himself a hat-trick with three
excellent strikes. Broadway travel to Prestbury Park, Cheltenham

Thursday
14th February 2008
Broadway United couldn't reproduce the form that took them to the County
Cup Final but will consider themselves unlucky not to have at least
taken the game to penalties. Broadway had the first shot of the
game when Alex Hammerton was put through in the third minute but the
keeper made a good save. Then Hammerton was put through again on
six minutes by Jacob Knight and this time he made no mistake slotting
the ball past the oncoming Royals keeper. Barbourne then had their
first effort, a shot from 20 yards comfortably saved by James Bishop.
The game was flowing end-to-end. Hammerton got the ball just
before the keeper when played through and he pulled a square ball back
to Drew Clark but he couldn't beat the keeper who had done well to
recover. Then Royals had an effort which was crossed from the
by-line but the shot went wide. Further efforts from man of the
match Sean Cooke and Charlie Stock saw saves from the Royals keeper who
they had to thank for keeping them in the match. Then a break saw
the Royals equalise after 22 minutes with a calm finish after rounding
Bishop in the Broadway goal. Ten minutes into the second half and
Broadway were behind with an almost carbon copy of the equaliser.
Again the game was ebbing to and fro with Broadway missing the better
chances. Broadway were committing more players forward and a
Royals break put the game beyond doubt with a well taken shot into the
far corner. Broadway must now concentrate on the league cup and
league for silverware and their next match is at home to Churchdown
Panther Colts on Sunday 17th February 2.30pm kick off. Broadway:

when he blasted home following a Charlie Stock effort which rebounded
off the cross bar. Two further goals from Clarke, four from
leading goal scorer Alex Hammerton, a brace from Harry Lowe and one each
from Stock & Sean Cooke completed a good afternoons work. Broadway

Broadway United Under 13's went five points clear at the top of the
Cheltenham Youth League after a 6-0 win over Charlton Rovers. Alex
Hammerton opened the scoring early on with a low shot after being put
through by Jacob Knight. Broadway missed a hatful of chances
before strike partner Connor Hensey got a second with a shot off the far
post. Hensey then scored his second from the penalty spot after
Knight was brought down in the area. Broadway's defence of Luis
Sone, Ben Hoskins, Luke McDonagh & John Carter kept Charlton Rovers at
bay with the away side not producing a single shot in the whole match.
Broadway's midfield of Knight, Harry Lowe, Sean Cooke, Harry Parker and
Charlie Stock were creating openings throughout and it was Hammerton
with his second, Knight and substitute Drew Clarke who completed the
scoring. Broadway turn their attention away from the league with a

An under par
Broadway United were made to battle every inch of the way by a very good
Siddington team who will consider themselves unlucky not to have gone
away with a point. Siddington made the early running with Broadway
barely able to string two passes together let alone get into the
opponents half of the field. But goalkeeper James Bishop and the
defensive partnership of Luis Sone, Ben Hoskins, Harry Parker and Luke
McDonagh kept them at bay. It was Broadway though who had the clearer
chances in the first half with man of the match Alex Hammerton hitting
the post, forcing a goalmouth scramble with the ball being cleared off
the line and away to safety. Then Sean Cooke saw his neat chip go
agonisingly wide. Broadway began the second half stronger and the
midfield of Cooke, Harry Naylor, Jacob Knight and Charlie Stock began
seeing more of the ball. Connor Hensey moved into midfield with
Harry Lowe partnering Hammerton in attack. John Carter replaced
McDonagh. The breakthrough came ten minutes into the half with an
excellent strike from the edge of the area from Hammerton. The
Siddington keeper got a hand to it but the ball nestled into corner of
the net. The game evened itself out from then onwards but it was
Siddington who had the best chance of scoring with a close range effort
producing a fine save from Bishop. Broadway held on and remain in

Broadway progressed through to the League Cup Quarter Finals with a
convincing win over Forest Green Rovers. Broadway controlled from
the start and it wasn't long before striker Alex Hammerton opened the
scoring, neatly slotting the ball past the advancing keeper, after being
put through by Jacob Knight. Broadway squandered several chances
to increase their lead but it was Hammerton who fired home from close
range following a neat header from Conner Hensey. Hensey thought
he'd made it three for Broadway when he let fly from close range but a
magnificent stop by the keeper denied him. The Forest Green keeper
was in fine form and it was he and the woodwork which kept the score
down to two at the break. Broadway's dominance began to tell in
the second half and Hensey finally got on the score sheet with a header
from a Charlie Stock shot which came off the upright. Ben Hoskins
then put Hammerton through, but he still had some work to do beating a
defender and again slotting the ball past the keeper for a well deserved
hat-trick. The defensive partnership of Harry Parker, Hoskins,
Luis Sone, John Carter & substitute Harry Lowe kept the Forest Green
strikers at bay, limiting them to a couple of half chances. Drew Clark,
Harry Naylor & Knight were working tirelessly in midfield with Stock and
man of the match Sean Cooke putting in quality crosses throughout the
afternoon. It was Cooke who helped himself to a brace, first from
a pass from Hensey, taking it round the keeper and firing home and then
from a neat chip from just inside the area. Broadway will meet

Broadway went back to the top of the league with another excellent
performance, this time against local rivals Badsey Rangers. Both
teams began well and had chances to take the lead with Badsey hitting
the post and Broadway coming close too. Then on the half hour mark
Alex Hammerton took his chance following some good build up play with
Drew Clark. Broadway increased their lead just after the break
with an unfortunate own goal. Broadway settled into their stride
and two further goals from Charlie Stock and Clark put them four ahead.
The defensive partnership of Harry Parker, Luke McDonagh and John Carter
were dealing with the Badsey attack with some timely tackles from centre
backs Ben Hoskins and Luis Sone. The midfield of Harry Naylor,
Jacob Knight, Sean Cooke and Charlie Stock were creating chances with
Connor Hensey and Hammerton holding the line well. It was Knight
who put the game beyond doubt with two well taken goals in as many
minutes midway through the half.

majority of possession. Another excellent Stock free kick made it

playing the better football and Charlie Stock opened the scoring with an
effort from just inside the area. The Broadway defence of Luke
McDonagh, John Carter, Ben Hoskins and Luis Sone were giving nothing
away, frustrating the Kidderminster attack. The midfield of Stock, Harry
Parker, Sean Cooke and Jacob Knight were linking together well with
Connor Hensey and Alex Hammerton working tirelessly up front.

Broadway remained in top spot but had a nail biting final 15 minutes as
Badsey came back from four goals down. A nervous start from both
teams saw no real chances with both defences on top for most of the
first half. Charlie Stock opened the scoring with a twenty yard
effort for his first goal of the campaign to give Broadway a half time
lead. Broadway came out all guns blazing in the second half and it
wasn't long before Alex Hammerton blasted the ball past the
helpless Badsey keeper following a rebound off the crossbar. Two minutes
later and Sean Cooke controlled and hit the ball into the far corner of
the net to score against his former club. Then Hammerton got his
second following a mix up in the Badsey defence. Substitutions and
various reshuffling by Broadway saw Badsey get back in and start
controlling the game especially in midfield. Badsey scored three quick
goals and James Bishop was performing heroics' in the Broadway goal.

Broadway Utd began the defence of their title with a tough trip away to
Siddington who had beaten Forest Green away 8-1 last week.
Broadway had the better of the play in the first half with some neat
football but failed to find the net against the in-form Siddington
keeper. Siddington failed to produce a single shot on goal in the
first half with some excellent defending from the back four of John
Carter, Harry Parker, Connor Hensey and man of the match Luis Sone.
The second half began much the same as the first with Broadway creating
the better opportunities but finding the Siddington keeper in top form.
The midfield of Jacob Knight, Harry Naylor, Luke Richardson & Charlie
Stock began creating more chances for the forwards Ben Hoskins and Sean
Cooke. Then substitute striker Alex Hammerton made his dream debut
with a neatly drilled shot into the bottom corner. With Broadway
in control a breakaway from Siddington eight minutes from time saw them
draw level against the run of play with a low shot past James Bishop.
But Broadway weren't going to be denied and following a passage of
end-to-end football the ball broke to Richardson who hammered the ball
into the bottom corner with four minutes remaining to break Siddington
hearts. A thoroughly deserved victory for Broadway in their quest for a
third successive league title.

6, Badsey Rangers 1
Broadway Utd completed a league and cup double after a tremendous 6-1
cup final victory over local rivals Badsey Rangers at Cheltenham FC's
Whaddon Road ground. With parents suffering more from nerves than
the players, both sides settled well with Badsey going close and it
needed a fine full stretch save from James Bishop in the Broadway goal
to keep the score sheet blank. Broadway had chances too and the
Badsey keeper produced a fine save from a cross-shot from Luke
Richardson. Broadway's defence of Luke McDonagh, Luis Sone, Harry
Lowe and Harry Naylor and later, Lewis Bastow and John Carter kept
Badsey at bay throughout the game. A goal either side of half-time
from top scorer Connor Hensey put Broadway in the driving seat, first a
scrambled goal and then a shot off the left hand upright.
Broadway's midfield of Sean Cooke, Harry Parker, Charlie Stock and
Richardson were creating more chances for strikers Ben Hoskins and
Hensey. Broadway were dominating and a third goal midway through
the second half from substitute Chris Greenwell seemed to seal victory.
But Badsey had other ideas and pulled a goal back following a good move
and cool finish. Then the goal that all Broadway parents and
players had been hoping for. Drew Clarke, who had suffered a
broken ankle from an earlier round in the cup last November, and playing
his first cup match since, scored a well taken goal which broke Badsey
hearts. Then substitute Matt Rose scored from a speculative chip
and there was no way back for Badsey. Their was still time though
for Hensey to complete his hat-trick with a shot bouncing down over the
line off the crossbar with Chris Greenwell on hand to make sure. A
comprehensive victory which was marred somewhat following an injury to a
Badsey defender early on which saw him stretchered off.

Final League Match
Broadway Utd
2, Forest Green Rovers 1
Broadway Utd have won their second successive league title following a
hard-fought 2-1 victory over title rivals Forest Green. Broadway,
local rivals Badsey and Forest Green all had a chance of top spot on the
final league programme of the season. Both teams started well but
it was Broadway who broke the deadlock midway through the first half
with a 20 yard strike from defender Luis Sone following a clearance from
a corner. Two minutes later Forest Green were awarded a penalty
but the resulting spot kick was hit wide. The defensive
partnership of Sone, Harry Lowe, John Carter and Luke McDonagh were well
organised and working well. The second half started much the same
as the first and Forest Green nearly leveled but the ball went just wide
after some good build up play. Five minutes later a scramble in
the Broadway six yard box nearly forced an equaliser but James Bishop
held his defence firm. Broadway's midfield of Luke Richardson,
Sean Cooke, Harry Parker and Ben Hoskins were beginning to create some
openings. Then a free-kick from Richardson cannoned of the
crossbar with the Forest Green goalkeeper helpless. Broadway
thought they had doubled their tally when Connor Hensey headed in from
close range but a late flag for offside ruled the goal out. Hensey
wasn't going to be denied though, and five minutes later he coolly
slotted the ball passed the advancing Forest Green keeper to ease the
nerves of the Broadway coaches and parents. Broadway were now in
control with strikers Charlie Stock and Chris Greenwell going close, but
then a Forest Green cross from the left floated straight into the far
corner of the net to start the nerves jangling. An horrendous
two-footed tackle on Sone left him needing treatment for five minutes
with only a yellow card ensuing. Then an injury to Broadway keeper
Bishop saw him replaced by Lewis Bastow. Deep into the ten minutes
added time and Forest Green were awarded a free kick but the shot went
just wide and the final whistle blew and the celebrations began.
